Pickup Truck Collides With Tow Truck Stopped on Emergency Lane
Batu Pahat district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani said preliminary investigations indicated that the Ford Ranger driver lost control before crashing into the rear-right side of a Scania tow truck that had stopped on the emergency lane because of engine trouble.
The impact caused the pickup to spin before a Toyota Vios travelling behind struck it. Three victims died at the scene, while the youngest child died later at a clinic.
Several other occupants of the Ford Ranger and the Toyota Vios sustained injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment. The tow truck driver was unharmed.
Police are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which concerns causing death by reckless or dangerous driving. The tragedy has renewed concerns over highway safety and the dangers posed by collisions involving stationary vehicles.
Four family members, including children aged one and five, died after a Ford Ranger crashed into a stranded tow truck near Yong Peng.
