KUALA LUMPUR — Local gold prices are expected to remain stable or rise slightly through the end of 2026 before long-term structural factors trigger a significant price surge, according to Malaysia University of Science and Technology Emeritus Professor Barjoyai Bardai. This represents a massive ~50% jump from current trading levels!
Speaking on Bernama TV’s Fokus 15, Barjoyai noted that while spot gold hovers around $4,000 per troy ounce—with potential dips to $3,950 under persistent sell-off pressure—prices are set to rebound to $4,100–$4,200 in the medium term. Citing global financial forecasts from JPMorgan, he highlighted that ongoing geopolitical uncertainty and fundamental shifts in the global economic structure could propel global gold prices up to $6,000 per troy ounce by late 2026 and $6,300 by the end of 2027.
Gold Projection
Despite these bullish long-term projections, Barjoyai cautioned investors that gold functions primarily as a wealth-stabilizing asset against ringgit depreciation rather than a source of quick returns. Because gold yields no cash dividends, profitability depends entirely on price appreciation across its extended 20-to-30-year market cycle. Therefore, while current price pullbacks present strategic buying opportunities, investors must remain patient, as clearer market directional signals are expected to materialize after late 2026.
Editor’s Note / Investor Advisory:
While long-term price targets of US$6,000 (approx. RM24,300) per troy ounce reflect aggressive institutional scenarios driven by global geopolitical shifts, market analysts emphasize that commodity projections are inherently speculative. Gold does not generate passive income, and prices remain susceptible to sharp short-term volatility. Readers and retail investors are advised to treat long-term targets as broad structural indicators rather than guaranteed returns, and to consult licensed financial advisers before making major portfolio adjustments.
