JASIN, Nov 3 – Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has strongly denied allegations that he was attempting to sabotage the MADANI Government through his remarks on the cancellation or postponement of rural development projects in Sabah and Sarawak.

Zahid, who is also Minister of Rural and Regional Development, said his statements were based on facts and official directives concerning the suspension or cancellation of Letters of Acceptance (SST) for affected projects. He insisted that the information he disclosed was accurate and said he was prepared to produce documentary evidence to support his claims.

Speaking to reporters after an education and TVET programme in Melaka, Zahid said he had no intention of undermining the government. Instead, he stressed that he was merely highlighting documented decisions involving projects intended for rural communities.

He said all SSTs that had been issued or were scheduled to be issued were instructed to be cancelled, adding that he possessed official letters confirming the directive. Zahid also challenged Jelutong MP RSN Rayer, who accused him of sabotaging the government, saying he was willing to present the documents publicly.

The controversy erupted after Rayer questioned Zahid’s earlier statements in the Dewan Rakyat regarding development projects in Sabah and Sarawak. Rayer argued that the remarks created a negative perception of the government and suggested they amounted to an attempt to undermine the MADANI administration.

The accusation sparked exchanges in Parliament, with some lawmakers objecting to the use of the term “sabotage”. However, Rayer maintained his position.

Zahid reiterated that his comments were intended to present facts about project decisions and not to damage the government or its leadership in any way.
