Govt Extends Electricity Subsidy to 800kWh

Electricity Subsidy

PETALING JAYA, Sept 18 — Domestic consumers will now enjoy electricity bill subsidies for usage up to 800kWh per month, an increase from the previous 600kWh threshold, until Dec 31, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced.

He said the measure was introduced as an immediate step to ease cost‑of‑living pressures, noting that haze and hotter weather had driven higher electricity consumption among households, pushing them beyond the earlier limit.

“Under this measure, domestic users consuming up to 800kWh monthly will be protected through exemptions from the Automatic Fuel Cost Adjustment (AFA), retail charges and Sales and Service Tax (SST),” Anwar said.

He expressed appreciation to Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), the Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry, and the Energy Commission for enabling swift implementation. The government will continue monitoring fuel costs and energy market conditions to balance affordability, supply security, and sustainability in tariff decisions.
