Umno is considering reinstating former vice-president Hishammuddin Hussein, suspended in 2023 for backing a rival PM candidate after GE15. Former health minister Khairy Jamaluddin and ex-information chief Shahril Hamdan, expelled and suspended respectively, may also return. Umno Youth grassroots leader Mohammad Rajaie Abdul Halim said their comeback could help secure up to 50 seats, adding: “Otherwise, Umno risks being seen as a dinosaur party that sidelines its younger generation.” Khairy and Shahril now co-host the popular Keluar Sekejap podcast. More than 450 Sembrong delegates recently backed Hishammuddin’s reinstatement ahead of GE16 due by February 2028.
