JELEBU, July 30 – DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook has dismissed claims that he would be appointed menteri besar if Pakatan Harapan (PH) wins the Negeri Sembilan state election, describing them as part of a smear campaign aimed at frightening Malay voters.
Loke, who is defending the Chennah seat, said baseless allegations were being spread in villages, including accusations that Malays would lose political power under PH. He added that he had also been accused of interfering with the adat system and undermining the royal institution. “We remain patient despite these slanders,” he said at a tea event with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in Simpang Durian.
Smear Campaign
During the campaign, Umno secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki questioned whether Loke would be nominated as menteri besar if Aminuddin Harun lost. Loke rejected the claim, stressing that PH’s sole candidate for the post is Aminuddin, and that the state constitution requires the menteri besar to be a Malay Muslim.
