Early this month, a 16-year-old Indian girl who was allegedly gang-raped and set on fire by two men died in hospital on Tuesday says the police who adds that the men were arrested.
The victim was a Dalit girl, the lowest caste in Hindu society, who faces disproportionately high rates of sexual violence in India where attacks against women have risen recently.
Her death came less than a week after two Dalit sisters, ages 15 and 17, were discovered hanging from a tree after being sexually assaulted and murdered by six men.
