Indonesian Protests Turn Deadly: Police Officer Dismissed After Rider’s Death

Massive protests across Indonesia have turned violent, leaving at least 10 people dead, including food delivery rider Affan Kurniawan, who was fatally struck by an armoured police vehicle during an August 28 rally.

The officer driving, Cosmas K. Gae, has been dismissed with dishonour for ethics violations, though he insists the death was unintentional. Six other officers have also been arrested. 

The National Human Rights Commission reported deaths in Jakarta, Makassar, Central Java, and Papua, while rights group KontraS said 20 people remain missing. The case has intensified public anger, fuelling calls for justice and greater accountability from security forces.
