Johor Launches Hunt for Five Dogs After Girl Mauled in Batu Pahat

The Johor government has ordered a large-scale operation to capture five feral dogs that mauled a two-year-old girl in Kampung Tambak, Batu Pahat, last weekend.

The child, Nur Haira Wafiqah Muhammad Hamizi, was found covered in blood with injuries to her head and face following the attack. She is currently receiving treatment at Sultanah Aminah Hospital in Johor Bahru. 

Authorities Intensify Search and Check Dogs for Rabies

The operation involves the Batu Pahat district office, Veterinary Services Department and police, with surveillance and other legally permitted methods being used over at least a week.

Johor religious committee chairman Mohd Fared Mohd Khaled said capturing the animals is an immediate priority, particularly to determine whether they are infected with rabies and prevent another attack. 

The state government has also pledged to cover the girl’s medical and rehabilitation expenses, while authorities will look into the family’s psychological well-being following the incident.

Previous operations by the Batu Pahat Municipal Council and Veterinary Services Department on August 12, 26 and 30 successfully captured 22 stray dogs. However, officials said continued efforts are needed as feral and stray dogs remain in the area.
