KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 16 — Former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin expressed relief after the High Court acquitted him of four charges linked to Bukhary Equity Sdn Bhd, thanking his lawyers and supporters while reiterating his belief in his innocence.

“Alhamdulillah, that decision is one I truly welcome. From the start, I maintained that I am innocent. Thank you to all who prayed for my acquittal today,” he told reporters at the court complex. Muhyiddin added he hoped to be freed of the remaining three charges still before the court.

Earlier, prosecutors applied for a discharge not amounting to acquittal (DNAA) on the four charges, but his lawyers pressed for full acquittal. High Court judge Noor Ruwena Md Nurdin ruled in favour of acquittal, noting the prosecution had offered no reasons for discontinuing the charges.

The case continues on three counts of power abuse involving RM25.3 million in alleged bribes for Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia. The prosecution closed its case yesterday after calling 29 witnesses over 30 days. Submissions are scheduled for Nov 26 to Dec 3, when the court will decide if Muhyiddin must enter his defence.
