JPN Launches New Generation MyKad

The National Registration Department (JPN) has introduced the New Generation MyKad, its first major update in over two decades. Launched on 17 September, the card incorporates around 50 new security features to strengthen identity protection and reduce forgery risks. Standard replacements will cost RM10.

Touch ‘n Go Removed from New MyKad

Among the key changes, the new MyKad no longer carries Touch ‘n Go functionality. Instead, users are encouraged to rely on the Touch ‘n Go eWallet or a separate card. 

JPN has also demonstrated how Malaysians can use BUDI95 with the updated MyKad, advising that the chip—now located at the back—must face upward when inserted at fuel pumps.

Despite the upgrade, existing MyKad cards remain valid for daily transactions and government services. Home Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail urged the public not to rush to replace their cards, assuring that current versions are still legally recognized.

Applications for the new card can be made at 40 JPN branches with printing facilities, where issuance is same‑day. At other branches, processing will take five working days. 

JPN emphasized that the rollout has been aligned with systems nationwide, ensuring Malaysians’ daily activities remain unaffected while enhancing verification and enforcement capabilities.
