A woman went viral on social media after campaigning for the preservation of Kampung Sungai Baru to not be re-developed. She states that those who are flat residents and terrace house residents should remain in their houses at all costs and to not let the developers “win” in this case.

However, netizens disagree with this sentiment as they state the area has been set to be cleared out a few years ago. They add that the residents in the area have already received their payments to vacate the area.
According to reports, the local residents there demanded a renegotiation from the authorities as they felt their compensation was too low. For the amount of compensation flat residents received, they are unable to afford a new house in Kuala Lumpur.
