Khairy Now Reveals Trust Between Anwar and Zahid at Lowest Point

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 15, 2026 – Former UMNO Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin has claimed that trust between Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and his deputy Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is at its weakest since the formation of the Unity Government in 2022.

Speaking on his Keluar Sekejap podcast, Khairy said tensions escalated after Barisan Nasional (BN) cooperated with Perikatan Nasional (PN) in the recent Negeri Sembilan state election, which saw BN and PN winning 25 seats against Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) 11. He described the move as a “major fracture” in BN‑PH relations, raising doubts about BN’s continued support for the Unity Government.

“PH will call it betrayal, BN will say cooperation is only at the federal level. Either way, trust between Anwar and Zahid is at its lowest,” Khairy remarked.

He warned that BN’s stance could influence the timing of the next general election, especially if UMNO faces mounting pressure from corruption probes or RCI findings. “How much can UMNO take?” he asked.

Khairy added that if BN MPs withdraw support, the government’s majority could collapse, particularly with potential defections from PKR rebels and independents from Sabah. “The cards may now be in Zahid’s hands,” he said.

He also linked the political turbulence to the emergence of Parti Bersama Malaysia (BERSAMA), led by former PKR leaders Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, which has attracted figures like Wong Chen, Rodziah Ismail, and Lee Chean Chung.

On DAP’s upcoming congress, Khairy predicted delegates would vote to remain in government, citing stability and ministerial positions. “Some DAP leaders have grown comfortable with power,” he noted.
