DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang questioned Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin’s sincerity after he distanced himself from his 2010 “Malay first” stance, claiming to care for all Malaysians. Lim asked, “When was he converted from ‘Malay first, Malaysian second’ to ‘Malaysian first, Malay second’?” and whether Muhyiddin would lead a campaign prioritizing nationality over ethnicity. In 2010, Lim challenged Muhyiddin’s identity, prompting the “Malay first” remark, which has since hindered PN’s non-Malay support. Despite Muhyiddin’s recent pledge at an Indian community event, PN’s hardline stance on interethnic issues continues to limit its appeal among non-Malays.
