In Malaysia, it is rather important for us to speak Malay. However, it may be the contrary for Singaporeans as most would typically speak English there. Despite this, there are many Malay Singaporeans who do not speak their mother tongue well, or would in fact speak it to only their grandparents.

Malaysians were thinking that these youths would speak much better English if they were really that bad in Malay. They are calling the irony on them not speaking both languages properly. It appears that netizens are upset at this as we tend to be proud of our national language.
Regardless, in our neighboring country, the main language will always be English. However, many of us in Malaysia would insist that speaking Malay is still important. This is due to those living in other states that may have less access to learn English as a second language.
