MCA Youth has criticised the government over confusion surrounding the expanded Sales and Services Tax (SST), calling it a matter of public trust and economic fairness. Secretary-general Saw Yee Fung questioned whether enforcement will follow the official Government Gazette—which lists commonly consumed fruits as taxable—or verbal clarifications by the Finance Ministry, which claim only imported fruits are affected. She warned that taxing imported fruits like apples and oranges will burden families already grappling with high food costs. Saw urged the government to revoke the current order, review taxable items, and prioritise the people’s welfare over unclear, rushed policies.
