MCMC Won’t Fine DJs For Mocking Hindu Chant as ‘they have gone through enough’?

1 min read

KUALA LUMPUR, March 10 – Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil confirmed that the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) will not take further action against three Era FM presenters who mocked a Hindu religious chant, stating “they have gone through enough.”

However, he noted that the DJs may still face consequences from other authorities, including the police and their employer, Astro. The MCMC has already fined Maestra Broadcasting Sdn Bhd, the station’s licence holder, RM250,000 over the incident. The controversy stemmed from a viral video showing the presenters laughing at a “vel vel” chant.
