PETALING JAYA: Anthony Loke Siew Fook’s decision to offer his resignation as Transport Minister has been described by DAP as a clear message that the party remains committed to rejecting corruption and governance failures.
Bentong MP Young Syefura Othman said the decision by the DAP secretary-general represented a clear line that would not be crossed when it came to compromising on governance and accountability.
However, the DAP National Publicity Assistant Secretary said Pakatan Harapan (PH) remained committed to supporting the Unity Government to ensure political stability and the continued functioning of the Cabinet.
Young Syefura said DAP respected the decision of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the provisions of the Federal Constitution.
She said Loke’s resignation offer, made following developments involving former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s conditional pardon and proposed house arrest, reflected the party’s position against kleptocracy, corruption and leakages.
She said the party’s immediate priority remained the welfare of the country and its people rather than political interests.
“Agenda rakyat melebihi agenda politik,” she was quoted as saying by Utusan Malaysia.
Young Syefura said political instability at a time when the country was progressing could ultimately affect the people, adding that national and public welfare should therefore remain the priority.
