New: Messi Inspires Argentina’s Dramatic Comeback Against Egypt

NEW JERSEY, July 8 – The golden rule of football remains true: never write off Lionel Messi. At 39, the Argentina captain rescued his side from a stunning upset against Egypt, overturning a two-goal deficit in the final minutes. Goals from Yasser Ibrahim and Mostafa Ziko had Scaloni’s men reeling, while goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir produced a heroic display. Yet Messi assisted Cristian Romero to spark hope before scoring his record 21st World Cup goal to equalise.

Moments later, Enzo Fernández headed home the winner from Lautaro Martínez’s cross, despite Egyptian protests over a foul in the buildup. Messi, now the first player to score in six successive knockout matches, was lifted by teammates in emotional celebration.
