KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 18 — Former deputy law minister Hanipa Maidin has backed Muda’s campaign to reopen corruption charges against Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, dismissing Umno’s accusations of judicial interference. Hanipa said Muda has “every right” to pursue the matter, stressing that Zahid had already been ordered to enter his defence on 47 charges linked to Yayasan Akalbudi funds before receiving a discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) in September 2023. Citing legal principles, Hanipa argued the prosecution had established a strong prima facie case, making the DNAA application “mind-boggling” and leaving public confidence in doubt.
