KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 1, 2026 – Former prime minister Najib Razak has taken a cheeky swipe at transport minister Anthony Loke on Facebook, turning a serious political saga into something resembling a sitcom.
Loke had earlier announced his resignation from cabinet, but clarified it would only take effect once Najib begins his conditional house arrest. Najib, never one to miss a punchline, posted on Sept 28: “Apparently, the principle has now shifted to conditional resignation.”
Najib Mocks Loke
The jab comes as Najib, jailed for corruption and money laundering linked to the 1MDB scandal, was granted a conditional pardon allowing him to serve the rest of his sentence at home—if he pays a hefty RM50 million fine. UMNO has even launched a fundraiser to help foot the bill.
Loke, meanwhile, insisted he and the DAP could not abide by the decision, tendering his resignation on Sept 19. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim asked him to stay on for now, but Loke quipped that his tenure now has a “timeframe,” leaving Malaysians wondering if cabinet meetings will soon come with expiry dates.

The saga has morphed into political theatre: Najib fundraising for freedom, Loke resigning on conditions, and Anwar playing referee.
