The Federal Territories Pardons Board has agreed to reduce the prison sentence imposed on Najib Razak, currently detained at Kajang Prison. In a statement released this evening, the board stated that with this 50% reduction, the former prime minister is expected to be released on August 23, 2028.

The Prime Minister’s Department Legal Affairs Division statement indicated that Najib’s fine is set at RM50 million, down from the initially imposed RM210 million. The board authorities agreed to Najib’s earlier release and the reduced fine, but failure to pay the fine will result in an additional one-year prison term.
