A 17-year-old boy, the son of an opposition assemblyman in Pahang, was detained in Maran for investigation into the alleged rape of a minor. District Police Chief Superintendent Wong Kim Wai said the teenager, who is awaiting his SPM examination results, was arrested after the victim’s mother lodged a police report.

The 16-year-old girl claimed she was raped at a house in Maran in early March after going out with the suspect, whom she had just met. The victim disclosed the incident to her mother yesterday. The suspect was released later after police recorded his statement and collected blood samples.
