PETALING JAYA, July 25, 2026 – Umno has rejected the use of racial politics as a tool to incite anger or fear for votes, said party information chief Azalina Othman. She stressed that remarks by Perikatan Nasional (PN) election director Sanusi Nor, suggesting Chinese and Indian Malaysians had ancestral homelands elsewhere, must not be taken lightly. “Issues touching on race, religion, and the monarchy are not tools to provoke anger or fear to win votes,” Azalina said.

She emphasized that millions of Malaysians of Chinese and Indian descent regard Malaysia as their homeland. “Malaysia is their home,” she added. Azalina noted the Federal Constitution guarantees the position of Islam, the Malay rulers, and Malay-Bumiputera rights, while also safeguarding the rights of all citizens equally. Sanusi, meanwhile, claimed his remarks were distorted for political purposes and vowed to pursue legal action to “correct the situation.”
