PKR has been reminded to remain true to its reformasi ideals even at the height of power. Former vice-president Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad reflected on the party’s early days, driven by hope and multiracial reform, and questioned whether the party now delays change instead of implementing it.
PKR Losing Its Head
He warned against becoming like past ruling parties in handling criticism and asked if PKR still attracts idealists or only those seeking power. Marking the party’s 27th anniversary, he recalled its roots in hardship, supported by civil society rather than elites, stressing sincerity and reform must remain central to the party’s struggle.
