PETALING JAYA, Aug 12, 2026 – The sister of Malaysian striker G. Pavithran has spoken out against racist abuse directed at her brother following his winning goal against the Philippines in the Asean Hyundai Cup. In a Threads post, she urged fans to support the team and leave race out of football. “Support our players, criticise performances if you must, but never attack them because of their race,” she wrote. She added that racism online was more disappointing than anything on the pitch. “A player’s race does not define his love, commitment, or sacrifice for Malaysia. The badge on the chest matters more than the colour of the skin.”
Racist Abuse
Pavithran, 21, headed in Wan Kuzain Wan Kamal’s cross to secure Malaysia’s semi‑final spot, earning praise as one of the tournament’s standout performers. While racist comments surfaced online, Malaysian fans largely rallied behind him, celebrating his crucial goal and recent accolades.
