Pondok Indah Indonesian Nasi Padang shop now reopens to long queues in Singapore

During peak periods, customers often wait up to an hour for their food. The 65-seater eatery has had a devoted following since its pre-Covid days, originally opening in 1998 at a Siglap coffee shop. At its peak, it had seven outlets across Ubi, Kallang, and Bedok Reservoir, but closed in 2019. It reopened as a larger, air-conditioned restaurant in Johnson’s Building on July 1.

The popular eatery is owned by Lindawaty Siam, a 64-year-old Indonesian-born Chinese who moved to Singapore in 1994 after marrying her local husband. Gaining Singapore citizenship in 2005, Lindawaty worked in various F&B establishments, including a cai fan hawker stall and an army camp canteen, before opening Pondok Indah. Lindawaty runs the business with her 40-year-old son, John Ng.
