The league’s motion aiming to temporarily halt player loans between commonly owned clubs was rejected in a 12-8 split, falling short of the needed 14 votes for passage. Concerns over Newcastle United possibly leveraging their Saudi ties to acquire Rúben Neves on loan sparked this motion.

The unresolved financial support deal, endorsed by the government two years prior, continues to linger. Despite a positive meeting where clubs openly expressed their positions, consensus on crucial details, like funding and cost controls, stymied progress. Richard Masters, EPL’s chief executive, emphasized the looming presence of an independent regulator, urging clubs to recognize the pressing need for resolution.
