PTPTN Debt Cancellation Challenging, Says Deputy Minister

Deputy Higher Education Minister Mustapha Sakmud stated that cancelling PTPTN debts is difficult due to the large financial commitment. UMNO Youth Chief Dr. Akmal Saleh responded on Facebook, noting that Barisan Nasional had also found it nearly impossible to abolish PTPTN debts.

Mustapha emphasised the need to consider borrowers who have repaid RM76 billion in loans. He acknowledged that the student loan debt was part of both government and opposition manifestos in the last election. 

Dr. Akmal suggested waiving student loan repayments for students with good academic results and reducing debts for students from poor families.
