The National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) will verify the eligibility of borrowers seeking repayment deferments under Budget 2027 through income checks with the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN).
PTPTN chairman Datuk Seri Norliza Abdul Rahim said the initiative is expected to benefit more than 400,000 borrowers earning below RM2,500 a month next year.
She said the measure reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring loan repayment obligations are aligned with borrowers’ financial capacity.

Borrowers earning between RM2,500 and RM3,000 monthly will only be required to make a minimum repayment of RM50.
Norliza also announced a 10 per cent discount for borrowers with no outstanding arrears who maintain regular repayments from 2027.
In addition, employers who repay PTPTN loans on behalf of employees between January 2027 and December 2028 will be eligible for tax deductions.
She said the measures would ease borrowers’ financial burdens, encourage repayment discipline and support sustainable higher education financing.
