PTPTN Loan Forgiveness Unlikely, Says Mustapha Sakmud

Most Malaysians who attended college likely applied for financial aid via PTPTN. Unlike some countries, Malaysia isn’t ready to forgive student loans entirely, said Deputy Higher Education Minister Datuk Mustapha Sakmud in Parliament.

He explained the government needs the funds for future students and must consider those who’ve repaid their loans. In response to Jerai MP Sabri Azit, who asked if loans could be forgiven for poor and B40 households, Mustapha stated that the Ministry and PTPTN are working with the Finance Ministry to develop a sustainable financing model.
