Former economy minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli has been summoned to Bukit Aman police headquarters at 10am on Tuesday (Nov 3) to give a statement over a speech that allegedly touched on Rafizi corporate mafia claims linked to a minister, MalaysiaGazette reported.
Rafizi disclosed the summons in a Facebook post on Monday (Nov 2), saying he had received a notice from police to appear for questioning.
Probe under Sections 500 and 505
Rafizi said he is being investigated under Section 500 of the Penal Code, which he described as covering criminal defamation, and Section 505, which he said relates to statements causing public mischief.
According to Rafizi, the police notice said the report concerned his remarks on several allegations, including a RM9.5 million payment to an individual named Ramanan Ramakrishnan and issues linked to corporate mafia.
He said police opened the investigation following a report lodged on Oct 22, two days after a talk he gave in Selayang. He is also being investigated over remarks in the same speech about Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) director-general Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain and his prosecution in court.
Rafizi summoned on corporate mafia
In the Selayang talk, Rafizi had alleged that PKR vice-president Datuk Seri R. Ramanan received RM9.5 million in bribes to settle a corporate mafia case. Rafizi said he has started a defamation suit against Ramanan over what he called Ramanan’s refusal to take the matter to court.
Rafizi likened the probe to investigations and court cases he faced when he exposed the 1MDB, Tabung Haji, Felda and NFC scandals, saying he was investigated under the same sections then and was cleared by the courts in all those cases.
He accused the PKR- and PH-led government of using the same Penal Code provisions to intimidate him whenever he spoke about corporate mafia and the allegations against Ramanan.
Melaka campaign event cancelled
Rafizi said he respected that the investigating officers were carrying out their duties as instructed, and would return to Kuala Lumpur and cancel his daytime campaign events in Melaka on Tuesday to give his statement.
He said he believed time would show that his group, Bersama, had helped the public fight corporate mafia while other parties stayed silent.
