New: Ridhuan Tee Signals Political Ambition in Teluk Intan

TELUK INTAN, Aug 27, 2026 – Muslim convert preacher and Muafakat Nasional deputy president Ridhuan Tee Abdullah has hinted at contesting in Teluk Intan during the 16th General Election (GE16), marking his first public signal of political ambition.

In a Facebook post, Ridhuan suggested he might “return to his hometown” to challenge DAP deputy chairman Nga Kor Ming, whom he labelled with his trademark “ultra kiasu harbi” moniker. The post quickly drew support, with commenters claiming Malay voters would rally behind him, framing the contest as perpaduan ummah or unity of the Muslim community.

Supporters argued Teluk Intan was a suitable constituency given Ridhuan’s Perak roots in Bagan Datuk, just 35km away, contrasting Nga’s Kelantan upbringing. Some even speculated Ridhuan could one day become Malaysia’s first Chinese-origin prime minister.

However, detractors mocked his ambition, dismissing it as political theatrics. According to census data, Teluk Intan’s population is 49.9% Bumiputera, 32.6% Chinese, and 16.9% Indian, making it a diverse battleground.

Ridhuan, who joined Muafakat Nasional’s supreme council in December 2022, has long been known for his fiery rhetoric. His latest move underscores a mission to dethrone DAP, setting the stage for a potentially heated GE16 contest.
