Chicken rice is a staple for Malaysians because it is tasty and affordable, but wallet-friendly versions seem harder to find lately. A woman named Chee YB was stunned after a takeaway order of basic chicken rice, with chicken breast, cucumbers and coriander garnish, cost RM12.60.
Netizens Urge Complaint Over RM12.60 Chicken Rice Receipt
In a Facebook post, she shared the receipt. The base price was RM10.90, with an extra RM1 for takeaway. After 6% Sales and Service Tax (SST), the total came to RM12.60.
Chee admitted she did not ask about the price beforehand because she never expected it to exceed RM10. She wrote that rice with roasted chicken breast in her area usually costs no more than that, calling herself “too naive.”
She did not name the stall’s location but said it was a non-air-conditioned kopitiam, not a restaurant or food court.
Some netizens called the price exorbitant and urged her to lodge a complaint with the authorities. The post also revived a familiar debate over who is to blame, with one commenter arguing that customers who do not check prices before ordering should share part of the responsibility.
