Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof said the federal government is closely monitoring global oil prices amid concerns crude could reach US$100 per barrel. He noted Malaysia currently sustains RON95 subsidies, costing not less than RM2 billion monthly.
RON95 Subsidy Still Sustainable, Says Fadillah
Diesel subsidies remain targeted, benefiting logistics and consumers in Sabah and Sarawak through fleet card programmes. However, Fadillah warned of challenges from cross-border smuggling due to cheaper domestic fuel prices compared to neighbouring countries.
He stressed enforcement and compliance are vital to safeguard supply and urged retailers and industry players to follow regulations to protect national energy security.
