KUALA LUMPUR — Confusion surrounds MIC’s position on joining Perikatan Nasional (PN) after secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan revealed a letter from party president SA Vigneswaran. While PN interpreted the letter as an application, MIC insisted it was only seeking clarifications on terms and conditions.

The wording, however, suggested serious consideration of rejoining PN, referencing “readmission” and MIC’s role as a co-founder. Vigneswaran outlined four key questions, including automatic membership, safeguarding the Indian agenda, coalition positions, and other conditions. PN later announced MIC’s acceptance, but the party has since denied applying and confirmed it will remain in Barisan Nasional.
