Senator Calls for Additional Public Holiday to Extend Deepavali Celebrations for All Malaysians

Senator Dr. A. Lingeshwaran has called on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to declare November 1 as a public holiday, extending the break beyond Deepavali on October 31. The Penang senator from DAP suggested that an extra holiday would allow Malaysians of all races to share in the Deepavali celebrations, fostering greater cultural understanding. “It will be great if PMX can consider an extra holiday on Friday for all, not just limited to Indians,” Lingeshwaran shared via WhatsApp. MIC Vice President Datuk T. Murugiah has similarly called for an additional holiday, advocating for broader inclusivity in national celebrations.
