The Ministry of Health (MOH) in Malaysia is actively monitoring food safety for imported goods under the Food Act 1983, following reports of Shine Muscat grapes containing excessive pesticide residues. The Food Safety and Quality Programme (FSQP) ensures food safety at 70 national entry points, performing inspections and sample analysis. The FSQP uses the Food Safety Information System of Malaysia (FoSIM) to conduct risk-based inspections and has tested 5,561 samples of imported produce since 2020, with 2.97% found non-compliant. The MOH clarified that imports meeting maximum residue limits (MRL) can proceed, while repeated violations lead to import bans.
