In Singapore, a couple spent over S$500,000 (RM1.5 Million) transforming their 10‑year‑old resale flat into a “luxury home,” featuring marble‑patterned walls, stainless steel accents, a cyberpunk‑style gaming room, and a walk‑in closet. Renovations took a year due to material challenges.

Unfortunately, the house renovations have drawn a wave of negative reactions online. Many X users argue that such extensive upgrades add little to HDB resale value, stressing that location matters far more. Critics claim marble walls and themed rooms may impress visually but rarely translate into higher returns. 

Still, the flat sits in Serangoon, widely regarded as a prime area, which some believe offsets concerns about resale limitations and keeps the property attractive.

Others feel that the renovation costs may be inflated. But, the cost of marble and light fixtures are rather high, especially in Singapore.
