Starting October 6, 2026, all foreign‑registered vehicles entering Singapore via the Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints must hold a valid Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP).
The Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) announced that the SG Arrival Card (SGAC) system will now be integrated with VEP verification, ensuring compliance before travelers even reach the border.
Singapore Arrival Card Linked to VEP Verification
Under the new procedure, motorists must confirm their VEP status when submitting the SGAC. If the vehicle lacks a valid permit, the system will block submission and prompt travelers to apply for a VEP first. Authorities say this advance check is designed to prevent congestion and the inconvenience of vehicles being turned back at the checkpoints.
The ICA emphasized that the VEP requirement also guarantees motor insurance coverage, since valid insurance for the entire stay in Singapore is a strict prerequisite for obtaining the permit.
Travelers are reminded to ensure their insurance remains valid throughout their visit.
Officials noted that the verification process will be progressively extended to other vehicle types.
Motorists planning trips are advised to consult the LTA OneMotoring website for application details. The move reflects Singapore’s broader push toward digital border management, combining safety, compliance, and efficiency in cross‑border travel.
