Social Media firms are not taking strong measures to stop criminal acts

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil expressed disappointment over social media platforms’ weak efforts in curbing criminal activities, despite holding 21 discussions. Fahmi criticized platforms for not proactively identifying criminal trends, relying instead on user complaints. He urged the use of AI to tackle fraud more effectively. The government plans to enforce a regulatory framework, including social media licensing starting next year, enabling stricter rules and penalties. Fahmi also stressed the importance of child safety online and welcomed efforts by the Federation of School Bus Associations to improve safety guidelines for minors, calling for broader protective measures across various sectors.
