Activist Tamim Dahri Abdul Razak and two other individuals were arrested to assist investigations into an incident involving four damaged statues at a temple along Jalan Klang Lama, Kuala Lumpur.
Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said the three were detained in Beranang, Selangor, at about 11am on October 11. The incident under investigation reportedly took place on October 6, prompting police to investigate how the damage occurred and who was responsible.
Police Refer Temple Vandalism Investigation to State Prosecution Office
Police received two reports concerning the incident, and all three individuals were remanded for three days to facilitate investigations. They were subsequently released on police bail on Tuesday, according to the report. Authorities have not disclosed the total financial losses arising from the damage to the four statues.
The case is being investigated under Section 295 of the Penal Code, which concerns damaging or defiling a place of worship or an object held sacred, with the required intent.
The investigation papers have since been referred to the State Prosecution Office for further action. Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan had earlier urged police to conduct a prompt and thorough investigation and ensure those responsible were brought to justice.
The arrests do not establish guilt, and any further legal action will depend on the investigation and decisions by the relevant authorities.
