Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan said the government’s targeted RON95 subsidy programme is expected to generate savings of RM2.5 billion to RM4 billion annually, depending on global crude oil prices. The projection was made based on crude oil trading at around US$75 per barrel. He explained that the savings would be redirected to direct aid programmes such as Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) and Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA).
Targeted Subsidy
Amir Hamzah also clarified the monthly eligibility ceiling of 300 litres per vehicle, saying it was sufficient for normal commuting needs. “For p-hailing drivers who rely heavily on their cars, appeals for higher quotas will be considered,” he added.
