Forget the tennis. Everyone at the US Open is talking about this $38 sandwich.

New York, Sept 4, 2026: Salt Hank’s French dip sandwich has emerged as the standout food item at the 2026 US Open, drawing crowds as much as the tennis itself. Priced at $38, the sandwich is made with Pat LaFrieda prime rib, caramelized onions, provolone, and horseradish aioli on a baguette, served with housemade jus and matchstick fries.

The indulgent creation was previewed on Aug. 27, where media attendees sampled new offerings ranging from Carnegie Deli’s pastrami sandwich to Red Hook Lobster Pound’s chilled lobster roll. Yet, Salt Hank’s French dip was the clear favorite. “We wanted the quality to stay like a restaurant-quality sandwich at the US Open,” said founder Henry Laporte, noting that his team brought all equipment and staff to the concession stand to maintain standards.

Salt Hank’s, launched in 2025 by Laporte and chef Daniel Rubenfeld in New York’s West Village, quickly gained viral fame through TikTok and long lines on Bleecker Street. The brand expanded to the US Open this year and was acquired in August by Wonder, a food-delivery platform. Fans voiced concerns about quality under new ownership, but Laporte insisted, “We’re still getting every ingredient from the same suppliers… it’s been indistinguishable from the restaurant.”

The French dip now rivals last year’s viral $100 caviar chicken nugget box, which sparked debate over value. At nearly $40, Salt Hank’s sandwich may seem extravagant, but for many fans, it’s a drippy, savory indulgence worth the price.
