The Tenom District Disaster Management Committee declared Tenom a flood and landslide disaster zone on January 5, citing inundated villages and rising Sungai Padas water levels exceeding warning thresholds at 176.79 metres. District Officer Alexander Liew urged residents to take precautions.

Heavy rains caused a bridge collapse in Kampung Tilis, severing Jalan Kungkular-Tilis, with an old logging road as alternative. A landslide blocked Jalan Ulu Tomani-Tinura in Kampung Bakuku without detour. Meanwhile, Kota Kinabalu closed its temporary relief centre at Al Munir Mosque Hall, allowing residents to return home safely.
