PETALING JAYA: Muslim men in Terengganu who skip Friday prayers without valid reasons now face a fine of up to RM3,000 or a jail term of up to two years. State information, dakwah and syariah empowerment committee chairman Dr Muhammad Khalil said the punishment will only be applied if reminders are ignored. Banners have been placed in mosque compounds to warn worshippers of the obligation. Enforcement will involve public reports, patrols, and joint operations by JHEAT and local authorities. The stricter law stems from amendments to the Syariah Criminal Offences Enactment 2016, replacing the previous three-strikes rule.
