Thief: “I’m Borrowing From The Rich” Gets 4-Year Jail Sentence

Ng Kim Swee, a 75-year-old Malaysian with a history of theft convictions dating back to 1971, has been sentenced to four years in prison for pickpocketing. She gained notoriety for justifying her thefts as a form of “borrowing from the rich.” Her criminal record includes theft and housebreaking offences in Malaysia and Singapore.

Ng targeted tourists and unsuspecting victims, often stealing from unzipped handbags in crowded places. During her plea for leniency, she cited financial desperation due to her husband’s spending habits and her son’s health condition. Ng maintained that her recent conviction would be her last and framed her actions as a form of wealth redistribution.
