Chaos erupted at a food court in Taman Kota Jaya, Kota Tinggi, when a 71‑year‑old man opened fire, killing three people — two local men and a foreign woman aged 37 to 63. The order was issued by Magistrate Nurkhalida Farhana Abu Bakar at the Kota Tinggi Magistrate’s Court on Monday (April 20) to assist investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
Witnesses initially mistook the gunshots for firecrackers before panic spread. Traders said the suspect, a vegetable seller and farm operator, had earlier argued with the victims over a debt dispute.
Police arrested him within 30 minutes and seized a Benelli shotgun licensed for agricultural use. Despite holding no prior criminal record, he allegedly confronted one victim, a restaurant owner, who scolded and assaulted him before the shooting. The suspect is being remanded as police investigate under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
