Tougher security now at SINGAPORE checkpoints following new JI attack in Malaysia

Following a deadly pre-dawn attack on a Johor police station that killed two officers, Singapore heightened security measures on May 18. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) increased patrols and enhanced traveller checks at checkpoints, causing delays.

Tougher security

This response follows the arrest of seven people in Malaysia, linked to the terrorist group Jemaah Islamiyah, with authorities tracking over 20 additional suspects. Singapore’s Internal Security Department (ISD) remains in contact with Malaysian counterparts. The MHA urged early reporting of radicalisation signs and advised Singaporeans in Malaysia to exercise vigilance and take necessary safety precautions.
