The Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court has scheduled a 10-day trial in May of next year for a ‘Datuk Seri’ who is facing four corruption charges involving former Home Minister Hamzah Zainudin. Judge Rozina Ayob set the trial dates during the case mentioned against businessman Sim Choo Thiam.
Trial dates set for ‘Datuk Seri’ in a corruption charge
The trial will take place from May 6 to 10 and May 13 to 17, 2024, with a further mention on February 21 next year. Sim is accused of soliciting and accepting bribes amounting to RM15 million two years ago.
He allegedly committed the offenses to gain favor with Hamzah and secure projects for Asia Coding Centre Sdn Bhd from agencies under the Ministry. Sim pleaded not guilty on May 10 and requested a trial for the charges.
The 63-year-old is required to report to the MACC office monthly and surrender his passport as part of the bail conditions. The prosecution is handled by Deputy Public Prosecutor Nor Asma Ahmad, while Sim is represented by lawyers Low Wei Loke, Hannah Kam, and Kee Wei Lon.
